Stitching Stars Blog Hop: Poppy Power

There’s a group of sewists that attended Sew Pro last year who do regular blog hops, and our theme for Spring was “Blossom”. I was hesitant to sign up to participate since I had a lot going on in first quarter between work and pattern design for The Stitch, but one productive Saturday I threw this little 12″ gem together.

I may have a thing for poppies, although I can’t really say why.  I have this painting in my kitchen, and mostly I like the cheery red and blue against each other.

To make my mini quilt, I found some decent clip art of poppies and used a marker to define the applique pieces.  I ended up with 4 different red/orange fabrics for the poppies, and did some thread painting in black and yellow on top of a speckled black fabric to make the poppy centers.  The background quilting is just wavy lines radiating out from the center.

Check out the other designers and what they made for the Blog Hop. And don’t forget to enter to win the Rising Stars quilt in the Rafflecopter entry below (note: quilt will be finished – it’s getting quilted now)!
