So Friday happened, eh? The episode got loaded, and of course there are still things we want to improve, but I wanted to take a minute to talk about partnership and small business. Lynn and I discuss partnership quite a bit, and have for a looooong time. We’ve been talking about doing something together for a couple years at least, and we’ve first crystallized it in the show.
The partnership goes beyond what you see on camera, though. Lynn likes to say that we disagree ALL the time, and of course I disagree with that. Sure, she’s team “peach” and I’m team “nectarine”, but there’s a point that two different shaped jigsaw puzzle pieces fit together. They don’t have to be the same shape to make a good picture; in fact, the differences in jigsaw puzzle pieces is what makes it an interesting Thing to Solve, which is something Lynn and I agree on.
SEE LYNN? Sometimes we agree!
(Side note: Pam writes most of the blogs on here, and frequently Lynn will be surprised at the content- part of the joy of our partnership!).
Anywho, Lynn and I get along because we’re fundamentally compatible, and able to recognize the strengths that each other brings to the partnership, which is consequently a recognition of where we aren’t strong ourselves. Lynn is a creative dynamo and I’m good at organizing things behind the scene. That doesn’t mean I’m a uncreative robot or she’s a organizational disaster, but having her in my life makes me more creative, her having me in her life keeps her on track.
We complement each other, is what I’m saying. And when we do disagree, it’s respectful with an understanding and acceptance that we can be different and still delightful. Honestly, in setting up this partnership and the business behind it, we have each looked at each other at one point and said, “I love you, and you’re being ridiculous.” In the most respectful way possible, of course.
And that’s what we want in a partnership. Complementary energies and compatible skills. I can’t wait to show you all what’s coming next!
